Várpalota Challenge 2014 – More Than Halfway Through

Szöveg: Péter Snoj |  2014. április 12. 7:18

Exercise Várpalota Challenge 2014 – which is being conducted in Hungary – is now more than halfway through. The Dutch soldiers participating in the training event have been rotated, so the outgoing 13th Mechanized Infantry Brigade has moved home and has been replaced by the 11th Mechanized Infantry Brigade.

Last week, when we visited the exercise, the soldiers of the 13th Mechanized Brigade were busy loading the containers to be transported home at the weekend. Still, the various training sessions were going on non-stop in the military training area.

The convoys were a beautiful sight, being made up of kilometer-long columns of different combat vehicles heading for various points of the training area. Some contingents stayed in their forward positions for days before returning to the base set up near Veszprém.

The photos below offer a glimpse into the everyday life of the military camp built by US and Dutch service personnel. While in the camp, we saw a lot of land vehicles, with the Black Hawk and Apache helicopters of the US military behind them, which were stationary or just preparing for take-off.
