Austrian Chief of Defence Visits Hungary

Gen. Edmund Entacher, the Chief of the General Staff of the Austrian Armed Forces (Bundesheer) paid an official visit to Hungary on June 4, at the invitation of the Chief of the Defence Staff.

The high-ranking guest was received with military honors in the compound of the Ministry
of Defence on Lehel St. In what followed, the Austrian general laid wreaths by the heroes’
memorial in Heroes’ Square. Defence Minister Csaba Hende received the guest on a courtesy
call.

After the courtesy call, the Austrian Chief of Defence met with his counterpart, Gen. Tibor
Benkő, the Chief of the MoD Defence Staff. The two partners held plenary discussions on the
challenges arising from the impact of the economic crisis on the armed forces as well as the
scope of regional and bilateral cooperation. Their discussions focused on the present status
and the future of the operations being conducted in the Western Balkans, about which they
exchanged views on the NATO defence capability package, the defence policy visions of
the V4 countries and Hungary with respect to the Western Balkans and Hungary’s role in
operations.

On June 6 the official visit continued at the ‘Vay Ádám’ Training Base of Hajdúhadház,
where Gen. Edmund Entacher was introduced to the work of the training base during a range
shooting as well as displays of armaments and military equipment.
