Metaphorically speaking, on Saturday, April 14 a C-17 aircraft of the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) transported victory for the team of Lombard Pápa FC that plays in the Hungarian Premier League. Based on a joint idea of the football club and the HAW, shortly before the match a plane of the fleet – with 1st Lt. Viktor Lukács on board – flew over the stadium in salute.

With a blue-yellow scarf around his neck, Col. Keith P. Boone, the commander of the HAW did the kick-off together with Dr. Tamás Áldozó, the mayor of the town at the match between the teams of Lombard Pápa and Haladás.

“This football match provides the community of Pápa – both the local residents and the foreigners living here – with an excellent opportunity to support their team together during an exciting sporting event" – Col. Keith P. Boone told the website papa-ma.hu.

He added that the C-17 fly-over was a symbolic greeting and expression of thanks from the personnel of the Heavy Airlift Wing to the citizens living in Pápa whose hospitality they enjoy.

In an interview for Magyar Honvéd early this year, the commander underlined the importance of making sure that the soldiers enjoy their life in the town.

During the match, neither team was able to get on the scoreboard until the end of the second half, but after a cross from the left, Mouhamadou Seye, a striker of the host team scored a goal with a header in the 88th minute, which decided the fate of the three points in the League.

A group of the HAW soldiers and the staffs of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) program, the NATO Airlift Management Agency (NAMA) and the Boeing Company also watched the match.
