Farewell to the Tenth Rotation in Győr

The farewell ceremony for the 10th troop rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent (EUFOR-10 HUNCON) took place in Győr on Thursday, December 15. Maj.-Gen. László Domján, the Commander of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) greeted the troops to deploy with the mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In what followed, the EUFOR-10 HUNCON led by Lt.-Col. Tamás Papp was blessed by Maj. Gergely Hankóczi, the Reformed field chaplain of the contingent.

The several-month pre-deployment theoretical and practical training program for the EUFOR-10 HUNCON has been completed successfully. The Hungarian troops are to commence their six-month tour of duty in Sarajevo in mid-January 2012.

The farewell ceremony for the contingent was held in the presence of the superiors, relatives and the invited guests in the barracks of Győr on Thursday, December 15. The nearly 150-strong contingent is mainly drawn from the HDF 12th Arrabona Surface-to-Air Missile Regiment and the HDF 37th ‘Ferenc Rákóczi II Engineer Regiment of Szentes. This is the first time for the troops of Győr to go on a mission abroad on force level.

Maj.-Gen. László Domján greeted the lined-up troops at the ceremony which was attended among others by Balázs Róbert Simon, the vice-mayor of Győr, Dr. Enikő Háncs, the governmental representative cabinet chief of the Government Office of Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Lt.-Col. Emil Oláh, a designated Reformed field chaplain and Col. (Eng.) József Nyers, the commander of the Szentes regiment. The HDF JFC Commander stressed that the mission in Bosnia-Herzegovia a priority for Hungary, because maintaining stability in the Balkans is in our fundamental national interest. He added that apart from the contingent, a number of Hungarian soldiers are posted to serve at the EUFOR HQ as well.

Gen. Domján praised the high standards of the incoming troop rotation of the mission, which passed their culmination exercise (CULEX) with flying colors. At the same time, he asked the soldiers to never underestimate danger, noting that the real power of the contingent lies in their community. He stressed that the training has already resulted in a cohesive community whose members are willing and able to work together for a common goal, and can always count on each other in every respect.

“You form one team. You have one mission that you should accomplish as one", told them Gen. Domján, and went on saying “Never forget that your loved ones are waiting for each of you. They bear a great burden too, as a solid and loving home front is a priority for any soldier in this situation."

After the ceremonial speech Maj. Gergely Hankóczi, the Reformed field chaplain of the contingent blessed the personnel.
