Good Performance in Udine

Szöveg: Lt. Dr. Zita Markovics Révészné |  2012. március 27. 15:19

By hoisting the flags of the three participating nations, the Force Headquarters (FHQ) of the EU Battle Group (EU BG) started a command post exercise (CPX) in recent weeks, which was directed and supervised by the Italian Defence General Staff (IDGS).

To reach Initial Operational Capability (IOC), the soldiers practiced how to establish and maintain contact with the representatives of “local" international organizations and (non)-governmental organs in accordance with the operational scenario of the exercise in a fictitious geographical environment.

During the two weeks the officers and NCOs posted to the FHQ were able to practice the execution of their tasks in an international environment, testing their skills several times in the imitated situations listed on the MEL/MIL. Lt.-Col. Zsolt Vantal, – the commander of the Hungarian subunit whose personnel is mainly drawn from the HDF 5th ‘Bocskai István’ Infantry Brigade – told us that the exercise provided a proper basis for the EU BG to reach Final Operational Capability (FOC) together with the assigned units in May 2012 by meeting the force standards and criteria at the NATO CREVAL to be performed in that month.

The superior organ, that is, the Italian Defence General Staff (IDGS) held an after action review on the closing day of the CPX. According to it, the soldiers have reached the training objectives fully, so the commander and FHQ of the EU Battle Group are able to coordinate the actions of the available land, air and naval forces and the SOF units in the designated area of operations.
