Great Sporting Results in the MFO Mission

The MFO mission in the Sinai Peninsula annually organizes the Force Skills Competition to provide a venue for the teams of the contingents to match their military proficiency against each other. This year’s challenging competition was held between April 17 and 19.

The Hungarian contingent entered a team in the competition which demands great physical endurance as well as theoretical and practical preparedness. Capt. Kinga Ipacs, team manager was tasked with coordination, and the team leader was Police Capt. Péter Takács. The members of the Hungarian team – Capt. Dr. Károly Telegdi, 1st Lt. Gábor Csendes, 1st Lt. László Bagi and Police SFC Balázs Horváth – were doing great and finished third overall.

The final result is all the more “valuable" because the Hungarians were drawn to set out to take the course exactly at noon, when the temperature climbed to 38 degrees Celsius even in the shade, and the wind was blowing stronger and stronger. The Hungarians had to take the range shooting event – one of the most exciting tasks in the competition – in a sandstorm under limited visibility.

The MFO darts contest is less spectacular than the Force Skills Competition, but it has long-established traditions too. The seven-man SONS OF THE DESERT, one of the international teams was the winner of this year’s darts tournament. This team included a Hungarian entrant, SFC Attila Daróczi.
