Between 9–12 April a Hungarian-led inspection team visited Austria under the 2011 Vienna Document of the OSCE Confidence and Security Building Measures.

The team was composed of three Hungarian arms control officers from the HDF Defence Policy Department and the HDF Logistic Centre, as well as a Swedish guest inspector. It conducted inspection in Styria and Carinthia to verify that no such military activity is going on that would be subject to notification under the Vienna Document.

The inspectors visited the Land Forces Command in Graz and the 7th Infantry Brigade in Klagenfurt. Furthermore, at both sites they received information about the organizational structure and tasks of the Provincial Military Commands. In cooperation with the internal security organizations, these Provincial Military Commands are responsible for the protection of a 300-kilometer section of the Slovenian and the Italian border. The inspection team also visited a Bundesheer military training area in the Seetal Alps.

This designated installation of the Austrian armed forces has been used for mountain training since the early 20th century. The inspection was closed with a helicopter observation flight, during which the inspectors concluded – from the air, too – that Austria complies with the provisions of the Vienna Document in every respect at a very high level.
