Hungarian–Croatian Border Meeting on Land

In accordance with the annual plan of bilateral international events, on 2 December Brig.-Gen. Gábor Horváth, Acting Land Force Chief, HDF Joint Force Command received Croatian Land Forces Commander Lt.-Gen. Mate Ostrovic for a one-day border meeting.

After the reception of the high-ranking guest with military honours, the discussions were held in the barracks of the HDF 64th Boconádi Szabó József Logistic Regiment in Kaposvár, where the delegations assessed the continuously expanding scope of bilateral and multilateral military professional relations that started in recent years, and explored the possibilities of future cooperation between land forces and Special Forces.

At the discussions, the Croatian delegation was informed about the activity of the Hungarian Defence Forces along the border during the migration crisis, and visited a command post of the Transdanubian task force. After the discussions, laying special emphasis on the Zrínyi Year organized in memory of the heroic siege of Szigetvár in 1566, the members of the two land forces delegations went to see the castle of Szigetvár.

The defenders of the castle and their commander are among the greatest military heroes in the historical memories of both nations. In this spirit, in commemoration of the historic predecessors, the two delegations jointly laid a wreath at the monument erected in honour of the defenders of the castle of Szigetvár in 1566.
