The International Association of Ultrarunners 24-hour (IAU 24H) World and European Championship will be organized in Turin, Italy on 11–12 April 2015. The Hungarian national team preparing for the competition includes a military officer, Lt.-Col. Gyula Sárosi.

The lieutenant-colonel told us that he had started to run in 1995 in order to be able to run the marathon for a bet. He completed his first ultra distance in 2006. He achieved his best result – 216.618 km in a 24-hour run – in 2014 at Sárvár, where he ran in the national championship and thereby qualified as a member of the Hungarian team competing in the world championship.

Gyula Sárosi has already participated in a 48-hour competition, run the Vienna–Budapest Super Marathon three times and the Ultra-Balaton four times. Furthermore, the lieutenant-colonel is a seven-time-Ironman and even won a Double Ironman on one occasion.

„This is the first time I have qualified for the national team. The feeling I have is strange even to describe. I always did my best at all competitions. Still, this one is different, now I can feel that it obliges me to do even more. I am neither a talented nor a highly skilled runner. My strong point is my willpower, and I would like to utilize it more than ever before, and my sons expect me to do so – and so I will do. I have to run a minimum of 217 kilometers, but I would like to see the figure of the tens going over two", Gyula Sárosi told us. The officer is Deputy Head of the International Travel and Foreign Service Financial Division at the International Department of the MoD Defence Economic Office.

At the international competition, the entrants will have to run as long a distance as they can in 24 hours.
