The CIMIC team of the HDF KFOR Contingent was really busy in the last week of March: two of the projects planned earlier have been completed. In Pristina, they donated special equipments to the blind women of Kosovo, while in Djakovica the school of economy received new IT equipments, which has made the students very happy.

The formal event to celebrate the completion of the first project was held on March30 at the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary in Pristina. The Blind Women’s Committee of Kosovo contacted the Hungarian embassy half a year ago and asked if they could help, in any form, disabled people who are in a difficult situation. Ambassador Zoltán Imecs and his colleagues assured the organisation – with which the embassy had been in contact before – of their support. Last summer, during her visit to Kosovo, Dr. Ágnes Vadai, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence donated a Braille printer to the committee. Following consultations and preparations with the command staff of the HDF KFOR Contingent, this week the equipments requested by the committee were presented. The special equipments for blind people included 50 Braille watches, 20 pairs of special smoked spectacles, 20 white canes to improve mobility, and 17 special chessboards, which were presented to Bajran Shane, the chairperson of the Blind Women’s Committee of Kosovo.

Zoltán Imecs, the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary accredited to Kosovo emphasised in his speech that every country has to be responsible for and pay special attention to helping the everyday life of disabled people. Major István Cseklán, Commander, HDF KFOR Contingent pointed out in his address that helping people is the most important duty of the Hungarian mission. Making life easier for disabled people is a joyful duty and the commander hopes that the new equipments will mean at least as much help and happiness to blind people as the Hungarian contingent is delighted to give them.

Two days after the ceremony at the embassy, the contingent completed the second project in another town, Djakovica. On behalf of Kadri Kusa School of Economy, Ms Silvana Haxhikadrija, the educational diretor of Djakovica/Gjakove district, and the headmaster, Mr Sihan Hajdari received the IT equipments. The eight new computer configurations, eight uninterruptible power sources, six laser printers, a projector and a screen will make teaching easier, thanks to the Hungarian contingent. The project has been organised and implemented by the CIMIC team of the HDF KFOR Contingent, after consultations with the educational director of the mayor’s office of Djakovica/Gjakove district.

Major István Cseklán emphasised in his address that education and training are always timely and important questions for every country. With the help of the computer and the Internet, the world opens up and possibilities multiply. In his reponse, the educational director of Djakovica/Gjakove district underlined that the equipments they have received will greatly contribute to improving the quality of education in the school, and thanked every member of the Hungarian contingent who participated in the implementation of the project for their work.
