I Would Like to Be the First to Say Thanks

Szöveg: kormany.hu |  2012. március 7. 16:10

Words would not be enough to say how much I appreciate the devoted and outstanding work you have done every day over the last months – said CSM Thomas R. Capel. This was the first time that the Command Sergeant Major of ISAF and the US forces in Afghanistan had visited the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team.

Out of the NCOs of the HUN PRT-11, twenty-one soldiers received the ISAF CSM coin at the NCO staff meeting for their outstanding performance. In his speech, Thomas R. Capel asked them to allow him to be the first to say thanks for their dedicated work if nobody has done it before.

The Command Sergeant Major of ISAF and the US forces stationed in Afghanistan said he knew that the coin he handed over was unable to make up for the minutes spent away from the family, the missed-out celebrations, birthdays, childbirth and anniversaries. He said words would not be enough to say how much he appreciates the devoted and outstanding work that the NCOs have done every day over the last months.

The senior NCO visited Camp Pannonia at the invitation of WO László Pasztercsák, the Command Sergeant Major of the HUN PRT-11. The US Command Sergeant Major received a brief update on the events of the last six months, with special regard to the protest staged outside the Hungarian camp the week before.

Thomas R. Capel watched a video clip and photo slideshow introducing the HDF 25/88 Airmobile Battalion. He was informed about the operations being conducted in the area of responsibility and the challenges the soldiers have to face during them. The CSM was also introduced to the ongoing CIMIC projects and watched a video clip on Hungary.

Speaking about the work done by the Hungarian troops, the US CSM pointed out that they have built schools where children can study, renovated hospitals where Afghan people can heal, and repaired roads to improve public transport. Day by day, they have worked to promote progress. The CSM said he hoped he would be able to work with such well-trained Hungarian soldiers for a long time in the future.
