A US Marine Corps Mobile Training Team (USMC MTT) recently arrived in Hungary to hold a three-day training course at the HDF 5th Bocskai István Infantry Brigade. The theoretical and practical lessons in Hajdúhadház involved one of the recce platoons of the HDF 24th Gergely Bornemissza Reconnaissance Battalion.

The three US Marines gave presentations in the topic of mounted patrols and shared their practical experience with the Hungarian soldiers. The theoretical lessons covered the system of military decision-making in the US Marine Corps, preparation of OPORDS, convoy operations and the establishment of communications. Moreover, the trainers also described in detail the ways of immediate reaction to enemy forces while on patrol.

During the three days, the Hungarian soldiers prepared a sand table where they modeled the arising situation after the OPORD was issued. On the closing day of the training, the personnel conducted route reconnaissance in the training area and range of Hajdúhadház, to show what they learned on the course.

Lt. Dávid Oláh, recce platoon leader told us that during the training, the US Marines shared the lessons learnt in combat, and introduced the tactical procedures of the Marine Corps to the recce platoon. The platoon leader added that the English-language training gave the soldiers a good opportunity to develop their language skills and foreign-language military vocabulary.
