In recognition of their work done so far, Irish Lt.-Col. Peter O’Halloran, the Chief of Staff of EUTM Somalia recently awarded service medals to the troops serving with the mission, including the Hungarians.

At the medal parade, Lt.-Col. O’Halloran thanked the personnel for their devoted work, stressing that the ongoing training in Uganda has gone a long way towards enabling the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia to bring increasingly larger territories under control.

The lieutenant-colonel said that judging by the feedbacks, after completing the training in Uganda, the troops can make good use of their acquired skills in the fight against the al-Shabab terrorist organization, increasingly preventing it from influencing the local population.

The lieutenant-colonel pointed out that the troops of EUTM Somalia should be proud to wear the well-deserved medals. He added that the mission is becoming more and more effective.

At the ceremony, the Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German, French, Swedish and Finnish as well as the Hungarian troops received the EUTM Somalia service medal. The Chief of Staff of the mission finally stressed that he expected the personnel to continue doing their work by the same high standards.
