Medical Care with Multinational Cooperation

Due to the changes in Hungary’s role in Afghanistan, there has been a reduction in the special staff of the Montenegrin–Hungarian medical center of the HUN PRT. To keep the capability unchanged, the cooperating German partners augmented the staff with a small medical group. From now on, a multinational medical center continues to perform the health care duties – for example, emergency medical treatment – within the camp.

During the exercise, the participants rehearsed a number of co-occurring scenarios to assess the professional skills of the whole staff of the center, the cooperative capability and the “on-site and institutional mass casualty (MASCAL) medical care capability". The number of “injured" exceeded the admission capacity of the medical center, so the organization and implementation of medical care and evacuation were serious tasks for the medical service.

After setting up the triage and providing the minimal on-site life-saving interventions, the staff immediately transported the “injured" to the medical centre. In spite of the temporary linguistic difficulties, the medical support and evacuation teams on the exercise successfully managed the MASCAL situation.
