Memorial Stone of 39th Unit in Kosovo

It is not an ordinary stone – at least for the 39th Infantry Battalion. It comes from the Doberdo plateau, where the soldiers of the former 39th Infantry Regiment – the eponym and model of the battalion – were fighting. It was built into the parapet of a trench to protect them from enemy fire, so that they can stand they ground in its cover honestly and courageously, in spite of the difficult circumstances.
The stone was transferred from there to the Debrecen building of the battalion in 2012. Since then, it has accompanied the soldiers of the unit on every mission and exercise, both in Hungary and abroad, to remind them of the example set by their forebears.
This time, the personnel of the 39th battalion serving with the 13th rotation of the HDF KFOR contingent placed the stone in Camp Slim Lines, Pristina. “To us, this stone is a symbol of courage, perseverance, determination, camaraderie and the battalion’s soldiers bond with each other and our forebears", Maj. István Petruska, a senior officer present at the ceremony said.
The commemorative stone-laying ceremony ended with a blessing given by Reformed Military Chaplain Lt. Ferenc Dudás.
