On Tuesday, 17 October Minister of Defence Dr. István Simicskó received in his office a delegation headed by MK Avi Dichter, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Knesset.

At the bilateral meeting, the two sides discussed a number of important issues such as the situation in the Middle East, the security challenges, migration (with special regard to the routes leading across the countries of the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region and Southern Europe), as well as terrorism and its potential connections with present-day migration.

Dr. István Simicskó pointed out that the task of effectively tackling the related asymmetric challenges (besides terrorism, regional instability and overpopulation etc.) is a priority in Hungary’s security policy, and it is also of great significance for the State of Israel.

The minister and his negotiating partner also discussed the military and defence industry cooperation between the two countries. The timeliness of this topic is partly based on the Zrínyi 2026 National Defence and Armed Forces Development Program, too, as Hungary has recently launched the most comprehensive and complex development plan in the last 25 years.

In addition to the members of the delegation, the discussion was attended by Israeli Ambassador to Budapest Yossi Amrani and First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission Fares Saeb.
