More Effective Participation in NATINADS

Our NATO allies will be allowed to use the Hungarian airspace by the joint decision of the North Atlantic Council – i.e. the NATO member states, including Hungary – and NATO AWACS surveillance aircraft may also arrive in Hungary, together with their ground crews, to be stationed on Hungarian air bases. All this is made possible by government decision 1598/2014 on the deployment of aircraft in NATO’s operational chain of command.

Thanks to the government decision, the Hungarian Defence Forces are allowed to deploy air force units and ground crews to NATO member states, which is, for example, an indispensable precondition for the successful execution of our tasks in the Baltic Air Policing Mission that Hungary undertook to carry out between September and December 2015.

Hungary will participate in the Baltic Air Policing Mission with four Gripen fighters and with the ground crews deployed in the Baltic NATO member states.
