NATO Military Committee Meets for First Time This Year

Dr. Tibor Benkő, Hungarian Chief of Defence is attending the NATO Military Committee’s first meeting of 2015 in Brussels, where in addition to addressing current tasks, participants discuss the development of a quick reaction capability endorsed at NATO’s Wales Summit last year.
The NATO Chiefs of Defence meet on 21–22 January in Brussels for their first Military Committee meeting of 2015. The Chiefs of Defence are first briefed on the geopolitical situations in the Eastern and Southern flanks of the Alliance, and then they meet in Resolute Support format to be briefed on the mission’s status, assess its performance and the expected changes in the theatre of war in Afghanistan.
During the discussions, the Chiefs of Defence assess the results achieved so far in standing up the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF), a quick reaction capability endorsed at the NATO Wales Summit in last September, and articulate the development plans.
The Military Committee also holds a meeting with the special partner Ukraine, at which the Ukrainian Chief of Defence gives an overview of the security situation in Ukraine and evaluates the development of military-to-military cooperation with NATO.
