Szöveg: MoD Press Office |  2012. november 28. 14:40

The most important operational role of the Hungarian Defence Forces is the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan. Therefore, to ensure appropriate information on this mission, a new webpage called “Hungary in Afghanistan” was launched in November 2012 on the Hungarian Government’s website. This webpage offers visitors news updates, background information, videos and photos on the activities of Hungarian troops in the mission.

The mission in Afghanistan, with the aim of preparing the Afghan government for maintaining security in the country independently, is the priority of NATO and its ally, Hungary. We have been part of the mission since 2003, and are committed to the stabilization of Afghanistan. The tasks of the contingents of the Hungarian Defence Forces deployed in Afghanistan are to train, prepare, mentor and support the Afghan National Army (ANA) in achieving these goals.

Currently around 530 Hungarian soldiers are serving in Afghanistan. A proof of their professional performance is the fact that United States Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta expressed his „deep appreciation for Hungary’s long-standing commitment and support to the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan" in September 2012, during his discussions with Minister of Defence Csaba Hende in Washington D.C. In her letter sent on the occasion of October 23 2012, Hungary’s National Day, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also called Hungary “a valued NATO partner", and pointed out that “the United States and Hungary are working together to ensure greater stability in Afghanistan".
