NOR Arrives at KAIA

Szöveg: ISAF KAIA |  2012. november 8. 10:33

A 16-member delegation from the NATO Office of Resources (NOR) paid a visit to the Kabul International Airport (KAIA) between October 23 and 30. The commander of the ISAF KAIA Base Support Group (BSG) gave us an interview to inform us about this event. Reporting from the spot.

The delegation headed by NOR Deputy Director Martin Versnel was accompanied by several high-ranking generals from the NATO Joint Forces Command Brunssum (JFCB) and the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) as well as by the leaders of the NATO Support Agency (NSPA) and the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA). I asked the commander of the ISAF KAIA Base Support Group (BSG) about the goal and significance of the event.

What is the mission of the NATO Office of Resources and the aim of the several-day visit?

The NOR is a very important organization which provides staff advice to the divisions of the the International Staff and the International Military Staff and other bodies as required, on NATO military resource issues. The aim of the visit is that the members of the NOR can get a comprehensive picture, understand the NATO common funded theater requirements in need of support, inspect the completed investments and those in progress, and acquire first-hand information about the new requirements arising from the changes.

How did this event unfold, and what is its significance to KAIA?

The delegation was received by the commander of KAIA and his deputy as well as by the commanders of the three groups (air operations, force protection and base support). During the several-day visit, they gave presentations and went on site surveys to inform the guests about the status of the investments in progress and the requirements of those special fields which are necessary for the planned projects.

What was the Hungarian aspect of the visit?

The Hungarians were assigned a significant role in making arrangements for the visit and in preparing for the efficient representation of organizational and professional interests, since two of the three groups which play a crucial part in the operation of the airport as well as the support and running of the base and its force protection – that is, the Base Support Group and the Force Protection Group – are under Hungarian command. Within the Base Support Group, the leader of the engineering-infrastructure office is a Hungarian soldier – this office has the key role in project management. There was only a short time after the handover-takeover process, so besides performing the daily duties, the full-scale preparation for this responsible task presented a great challenge, but, judging from the feedbacks, this time again the Hungarians have done a good and professional job.
