Outstanding Determination
Szöveg: WO József Csajbók | 2015. augusztus 8. 7:02Soldiers serving on the medical staff of the 12th rotation of the HDF KFOR contingent (KFOR-12 HUNCON) were driving from Prizren to Novo Selo on the last day of July in the evening hours, when they noticed that traffic has stopped in the opposite lane of the main road…
The Hungarian peacekeepers started examining the wounded soldier. They concluded that he had injuries on the cervical spine and the backbone, and femoral neck fracture. Because his safety belt was fastened, he probably had some internal injury too. The Hungarian soldiers performed venous access, applied a cervical collar, then prepared a spine board with a vacuum mattress and laid the wounded soldier on it.
In what followed, SFC Helmeczi reported to his company commander about the case and requested immediate MEDEVAC to the scene. The Hungarian medics marked the helicopter landing zone about 150 meters from the scene of the accident. The MEDEVAC helicopter arrived on the scene in a short time, so the injured was quickly transported to hospital.
Although SFC Helmeczi and CPL Habon were “only" doing their job, the Swiss peacekeepers thanked them for the professional aid.
