Presence Patrolling in 72 Hours

The residents of northern Kosovo recently requested KFOR to send military patrols into the area, in the interest of maintaining a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement during the run-up to the election.

The unit that Maj.-Gen. Erhard Drews, the Commander of KFOR tasked with the patrolling was the KFOR Tactical Reserve Maneuver Battalion (KTM) under his direct control. The Portuguese–Hungarian battalion mounted the patrols in a 72-hour rotation schedule. On April 18 the COMKFOR personally inspected the troops and was satisfied with them.

“I have gained useful experience on the presence patrols, which gave me an opportunity to use the skills I had acquired during the training in real-life “live" situations. The local people were pleased to welcome us wherever we went", L/Sgt. Sándor Kulin, a sniper from the support platoon of the Hungarian infantry company told us.
