PRT Donates Two Containers

The troops serving with the 11th rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-11) recently donated containers to the Afghan people on two occasions. On January 23 Lt.-Col. István Megtért, the deputy commander of the contingent handed over a containerized housing unit (CHU) at a ceremony in Burka, whereas on January 24 Chief of Staff Lt.-Col. Lajos Nagy ceremonially donated a storage container in Pol-e Khomri.

The Chief of Police of the district made a request for the Burka CHU last December, because up to that point the local policemen had only a tent available for rest. The patrol of the PRT Liaison Team had already experienced the problem on previous meetings, so it considered the request reasonable. By donating the CHU, the HUN PRT intends to provide the local policemen with proper rest areas and to improve their working conditions in the long term.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Habibi Rahman, the Chief of Police of Burka expressed thanks and gratitude to the HUN PRT for the donation. He said he hoped that the cooperation will continue into the future.

The history of the storage container donated in Pol-e Khomri goes back to last December as well. In that month, Capt. Gábor Zsolnay, the commander of the HUN PRT-11 EOD cell and S/Sgt. Jenő Ficzere, the PRT-11 C-IED advisor received in Camp Pannonia for a three-day discussion Capt. Wedel Jörg (Germany), the WIT commander of the ISAF RC-N C-IED advisory team, Capt. Lejnieks Oskars (Latvia), the EOD analyst officer of the team and WO Dutz Jens (Germany), the EOD technician of the advisory team. The issue of the storage container was first raised at this meeting in order to facilitate the safe storage of explosives and the already collected IEDs that had been stored inside one of the buildings of the local police station.

The chief of the RC-N C-IED section accepted the proposal, so the storage container was delivered and handed over. It was Gen. Rostaqui, the Deputy Chief of Police and Col. Azizullah, the leader of the anti-terrorist team who took over the asset.

To make the storage container safer than it currently is requires further development, but this task will be assigned to the next PRT contingent. The container was set up at the police station on condition that the PRT can have access to it.
