Rotation of the Contingents in Sarajevo

The handover/takeover process between the Hungarian Contingents ended in Camp Butmir, Sarajevo. The last phase of the process was the transfer of the commander’s tasks and spheres of authority, whereupon the 14th Contingent of the HDF EUFOR Contingent could officially begin their service in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The eleventh Rotation of the Hungarian Contingent began their service in Sarajevo


The 14th Rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent is required to do a six-month long service duty in Sarajevo. Most of the personnel came from the HDF 12th Arrabona Air-defence Missile Regiment, and the HDF 37th “Rákóczi Ferenc" Engineer Regiment, but the rotation personnel also comprises soldiers of another ten units. The infantry company constituting the largest part of the Contingent has only arrived in the recent days to the area of operation (AO), while the Command, and those fulfilling positions in the staff of the Multinational Battalion – MNBN, and the soldiers of the National Support Element (NSE) of the Contingent had already arrived earlier at Camp Butmir, in order to take up the duties concerning the handover/takeover process and to prepare the arrival of the main force of the Contingent.

Following the signing of the transfer of the Commander’s authority (TOA) documents, the unit colours of the Air-defence Missile Regiment was hoisted among the flags of the European Union and Hungary in the camp, replacing the unit colours of the Engineer Regiment.

Chief of Staff of EUFOR, Brigadier General József Szpisják thanked the Commander of the outgoing Contingent Lieutenant Colonel Gábor Bartók for the professional performance exerted in the past six months, and ordered the new Contingent Commander Lieutenant Colonel Péter Somogyi, that they are expected to continue the same high level of performance in the future.
