At the signing ceremony of Exercise Blonde Avalanche 2016, Hungary was represented by Col. László Drót, Deputy Commander, HDF 5th Bocskai István Infantry Brigade.

In 2016, Romania assumes the lead nation role of the joint exercise. Radu Bud, the prefect of Szatmár County gave a speech during the opening ceremony in the square outside the town hall of Satu Mare. He pointed out that the TISA Multinational Engineer Battalion plays an important role in building professional and good neighbor relations between the participating nations.

In what followed, Gábor Kereskényi, the mayor of Satu Mare welcomed the parading troops, and then Col. Dumitru Gheorghe Soare, the commander of the 10th Engineer Brigade opened the exercise.

Hungary is represented at the event by soldiers drawn from two subunits – Operations Support Engineer Battalion and Combat Support Engineer Battalion – of the HDF 5th Bocskai István Infantry Brigade. This week the four nations’ engineers are holding a computer-assisted command post exercise (CAX-CPX) and executing live tasks in the military training area of Martinesti on the bank of River Somes to demonstrate their cooperative skills in the minimalization of the consequences of a natural disaster – this year, a fictitious flood on the Danube.

The Steering Group of the TISA Multinational Engineer Battalion – including Hungarian Deputy Chief of Defence Lt.-Gen. Dr. Zoltán Orosz – is meeting in Bucharest in parallel with the exercise.
