The Chief of the MoD Defence Staff arrived in Brussels

The Chief of the MoD Defence Staff General Dr. Tibor Benkő arrived in Brussels on Tuesday, 21st of January, where the meeting of the NATO Chiefs of Defence will be staged on 23-24 January. The Hungarian Military Representative Major General László Domján received Tibor Benkő on the airport, and then they travelled together to the NATO HQ.

The Chief of the MoD Defence Staff held a staff meeting at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to NATO in Brussels for the personnel of the HDF Office of the Military Representative (Brussels) and HDF Office of the National Military Representative (Mons), and for the staffs who occupy independent NATO and EU posts. During this session he shortly evaluated the last year’s performance, and gave instructions for the future task-execution. The military representations closed a successful year in 2013; they represented the interests of our nation and the Hungarian Defence Forces efficiently.

After the staff meeting General Benkő conducted an exchange of ideas with Ambassador Dr. Péter Sztáray, the Permanent Representative of Hungary to NATO about the challenges, the current issues ahead of the Alliance. Following the discussion he received a briefings form the experts of the HDF Office of the Military Representative about the topics of the CHODs’ meeting, such as the situation of the ISAF and KFOR and the subsequent tasks, the state of the planning process of the Resolute Support (RS) mission replacing the ISAF, and the timely tasks of the military co-operation between the NATO and Russia and with the countries of the Mediterranean Dialogue (MD).

A further key issue is the situation of the NATO Transformation, and within that the NATO’s new command structure, the reform of the agencies, the Smart Defence and the Connected Forces Initiative, and the military tasks of the preparation of the NATO Summit Meeting to be staged in September 2014.
