„The First Decision May Save Lives…”

Szöveg: A. H. |  2011. december 24. 6:01

The contingent of the 11th Rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HDF PRT-11) has got acquainted with the theoretical and practical basics of a new area in the recent past, in the framework of the medical training for the non-professional health care-providers started earlier.

Though the newly introduced caring process does not belong to the subject matter of the combat medical care, but it is closely interlinked with the military and the civil life, which is all the more important, as the soldiers live their everyday life similarly to the civilians, and the daily work schedule even on the area of operation (AO) does not only contain deployment tasks.

In Europe approximately 700 thousand cardiac arrests take place yearly, and in these cases the diagnosis and the decision made instantaneously may save lives. The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) worked out and adopted a caring process: Basic Life Support – Automatic External Defibrillation (BLS-AED), built upon non-professional care-providers, and urges the spreading of defibrillators in public places accommodating large crowds, and among public service providers. The care providing process and the use of the defibrillation appliance is simple, built up of elements easily attainable regardless of the given age.

The personnel of the 11th Rotation of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-11) acquired these skills so that they will be able to provide efficient aid in case of the sudden cessation of the blood circulation, endangering life.

The first decision made by the non-professional aid-provider present on the spot, may save lives on any scene, may it be in the shop of a hypermarket, or perhaps in the swimming pool of the national barracks, or in a workplace on some area of operation (AO). The session on the resuscitation exerted without basic equipment and the use of the automatic defibrillator was held by ERC BLS-AED Instructor, Capt. Attila Hardi. The caring process has been successfully mastered by the members of the executing contingent – irrespective of age and gender.

The continuous updating of the basics on life saving is not only a prescription of the training schedule of the HDF PRT, but it is a sort of action of vital importance in a given situation, which one must be able to apply even if his adrenalin-level is skyrocketing. May it be any kind of task to be performed by the PRT, the medical staff will always be there, to be able to provide medical care if so required. Practice is a must, as in the course of life-saving, time and self-confidence are the most important factors.
