Recently the team has started carrying out a highly important mission at the military units stationed in the region. The objective was to pave the way for a comprehensive inspection, so they visited the units (regiments) that will be involved in the joint FARDC–EUSEC operation to be launched at the end of April.
subunits so that the Congolese military leadership can obtain a comprehensive picture of the
current situation in the 10th military district. The Hungarian military officers are responsible
for preparing a comprehensive report on the current state of the altogether 11 military
districts. This report will be used in drawing up a strategic plan for the reform of the armed
forces.
Thanks to recent international efforts, the security situation in Eastern Congo is now stable.
This is the result of the ongoing negotiations with the M23 armed rebel group in Kampala,
Uganda and the creation of an “intervention brigade" under a UN Security Council resolution,
which is composed of African military forces. Fighting under the aegis of the UN, this brigade
has the mission of engaging illegal armed groups operating in the areas of Eastern Congo in
order to enforce peace, which the local population has long been waiting for.
For Col. Sándor Nagy, this task has been the last mission in Africa, since having completed
his four-year tour of duty in Congo, the Hungarian senior officer will soon return to Hungary.
