Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently paid a visit to the Hungarian peacekeepers serving in Sarajevo and met the Austrian commander of EUFOR.

Addressing the Hungarian troops in Camp Butmir near Sarajevo, Viktor Orbán pointed out that they have been serving at a very important location because the stability of Bosnia-Herzegovina means that of the Western Balkans. That is, the absence of rule of law and peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina would affect the whole region of the Western Balkans.

Before visiting the HDF EUFOR contingent, the Prime Minister had discussions with COM EUFOR Austrian Maj-Gen. Bernhard Bair at the military base. Speaking about their discussion, Viktor Orbán said that the major-general had highly praised the performance of the Hungarian contingent. Viktor Orbán thanked the Hungarian troops for their service.

More than 170 Hungarian peacekeepers serve in Camp Butmir. Their primary tasks include maintaining a safe and secure environment (SASE) in the country and supporting the development of the armed forces of Bosnia-Herzegovina. At the end of his official visit, the Prime Minister inspected some accommodation areas where he spoke informally with the troops.
