A delegation of three from the Headquarters of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy (NRDC-ITA HQ) recently paid a visit to the HDF 5th ‘Bocskai István’ Infantry Brigade to discuss the possibilities for future cooperation.

Col. Aldo Mezzalana, the head of the NRDC-ITA delegation was accompanied by Capt. Dario Paduano and US Maj. Adams Keown on his visit to Debrecen, Hungary, where Commanding General Brig.-Gen. Dr. Gábor Böröndi received the guests.

On the first day of their stay and the morning of the second day, the guests from Italy were introduced to the brigade. In what followed, the delegation visited the ‘Vay Ádám’ Training Base in Hajdúhadház. After a short briefing, they inspected the firing range and the motor pool, then on the third day the foreign officers were shown around the Kossuth barracks. After a technological display they proceeded to the quarters of the reconnaissance battalion, the human services office, the operations center, the library, the unit museum, the Peacekeepers’ Park and the sports complex.

At the end of the visit Col. Mezzalana thanked the Hungarian hosts for the very informative briefing, which is to be followed by a discussion on the specifics of cooperation. Italy provides almost 70% of the personnel of NRDC-ITA HQ (which is located near Milan), and the remaining 30% is made up of officers and NCOs from other nations contributing to the Headquarters.
