The Zrínyi Media Digital Library will go online in the coming days. We asked Lajos Gubcsi, PhD, the managing director of Zrínyi Media to give us a brief update.

“The Zrínyi Publishing House used to be a famous book-creating workshop. Later, for some incomprehensible reason, it was to be wasted; independent book-publishing activity came to a halt and the whole book-publishing business was transferred to another firm that made a huge profit. This is unacceptable, so we have put an end to this practice. My dream is that one day we can digitalize the books published by the Zrínyi Publishing House and thus create a past in a way that is accessible to everyone – at least in the world of books. We do not have enough resources yet, but one day we will certainly reach that goal.

As of today, we are making every new book, periodical and every issue of the Magyar Honvéd magazine available in the Zrínyi Media Digital Library, which is due to open in the coming days. In this respect, the internet is the most democratic institution in the world. Anyone can read our books, no matter whether they are poor or rich, residents of Budapest or Izsák. We are going to let the world know more emphatically that if they want to find out more about the spirit of national defence, the great written accounts relating our past – and believe me, there will be more and more people like that in a Hungary that has been renewed in spirit and morals –, they should visit the Zrínyi Digital Library. But we still have a lot of work to do until we can achieve this.

I can proudly say that our very first book is at once a beautiful bibliographical curiosity. It will be published on February 1 – with the title ‘1000–1100 Years Ago…’ – but my colleagues, editors-in-chief István Zsalakó and Csaba Nagy and editors János Isaszegi and Kata Gáspár are uploading it to www.honvedelem.huright now, as we speak."

Managing Director Lajos Gubcsi, PhD informed us that the Digital Library will be available at http://ekonyvtar.zrinyimedia.hu.
