One day after the first Baltic live alert, on 14th May – in the morning – the Gripens of the Hungarian Defence Forces were again scrambled, as well as the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft of the British Royal Air Force stationing at Ämari Air Base, Estonia.

This time the fighters on Baltic Air Policing Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) took off because of an IL-22 aircraft and two Su-27 fighters escorting it. The Russian military planes flew in the international airspace, but failed to establish radio contact with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) service. Following the Alpha scramble, at the south-eastern part of the Baltic Sea, – at an altitude of 8600 meters –, the fighters of the Hungarian and the British Royal Air Force intercepted and identified the aircraft entering the airspace concerned without logging. After the identification the Hungarian and the British fighters returned to their base.
