The soldiers of KFOR Tactical Reserve Battalion (KTRBN) perform demanding tasks in Kosovo. One of their main duties is to execute presence patrols, thereby demonstrating that KFOR is present, to defend and maintain a sense of security and a peaceful environment for everybody. In addition to this the soldiers are there to help immediately  in an emergency.

This was also the case on Monday, when the soldiers of the first – Alpha – company of KTRBN were patrolling between the settlements of Restelica and Dragas, in the Southern region of Kosovo. After seven o’clock in the evening, the road conditions were very hazardous on the hairpinned mountain roads. The patrols noticed that a civilian motor car fell into a roadside ditch, and the vehicle occupants were waving at them.

The soldiers at once assessed the situation, and while the squad commander, Sergeant Ádám Kiss took the mandatory reports to the Headquarters, the Hungarian soldiers led by Platoon Leader Zoltán Gábor Nagy started to secure the accident area. The life-saving soldiers of the battlefield, PFC Bálint Bohár and PFC Roland Raukh found one victim, who was lying unconscious in the backseat of the vehicle. He was examined and placed in the recovery position.

During the securing of the area, many civilian cars stopped to help, one of them volunteered to transport the injured person right away to the hospital. After providing first aid, technical rescue was carried out, as the soldiers established that the damaged vehicle after towing out of the ditch was still functioning. Corporal Tamás Czene, the driver of one of the military vehicles towed the damaged vehicle professionally out of the ditch.

Lieutenant Colonel Sándor Horváth, the Commander of the HDF KFOR Contingent thanked the soldiers for their exemplary service, and selfless efforts, praising their outstanding heroism.
