The National Day in Cyprus

On March 13 the Hungarian peacekeepers serving in Cyprus commemorated the anniversary of the start of the 1848/49 Revolution and War of Independence during a ceremonial staff meeting.

At the ceremony the speakers talked of the events of March 15, 1848. Dr. Balázs Botos, Hungary’s ambassador to Cyprus also participated in the ceremonial staff meeting. In his welcoming speech, he pointed out that our National Day is an occasion for all Hungarian soldiers serving abroad to celebrate, and all Hungarians’ hearts beat to the same rhythm around the world.

The staff meeting closed with the handover of recognitions. Lt.-Col. Péter Lukács, the commander of the Hungarian contingent commended 1st Lt. István Boros, WO Norbert Szőke, L/Sgt. Csaba Ignácz, L/Sgt. Zsolt Menyhárt, Capt. Csaba Cseri and Capt. Gábor Erki for their outstanding performance in their positions, and awarded them tokens of appreciation.
