Current Issues in Disaster Management

2011. június 15. 18:23

The most devastating industrial disaster in Hungary’s history struck at midday on October 4, 2010. The state and local government organs and the charity organisations took part in the disaster relief operation. The units of the Hungarian Defence Forces were among the first to join the rescue work, the assessment and remediation of the damage and the assistance to the population. Their exemplary activity contributed to consequence management and the mitigation of personal tragedies on countless venues, and in almost all possible fields. The Hungarian Defence Forces demonstrated their readiness and professionalism in treating the injured, saving residential houses, roads, vehicles, as well as in clearing the debris. The Hungarian Defence Forces Operations Centre held a conference under the title “Current Issues in Disaster Management”, the topic of which was global warming. The book summarises the presentations, which – beyond the meteorological and health consequences of global warming – dealt with the impacts of climate change on military activity. We recommend the publication to the attention of all those who take an interest in the current issues of disaster management.
