In a Flash… – Reporting from Afghanistan

…this was how the seventh rotation of the Mi-24 HDF Air Mentor Team arrived in Kabul. The C-160 Transall aircraft of the German Air Force played a considerable role in this. Fortunately, this time its fabulously sensitive self-protection (anti-missile countermeasure) system was not activated, so the one hour of flight time passed without much excitement. True, this meant that the spectacular popping of flares did not take place either.

Rotation Flight – Reporting from Afghanistan

After a five and a half hour flight, under cover of night, the Boeing C-17A Globemaster III strategic airlifter that had taken off from Pápa, Hungary landed on the aerodrome of the Mazar-e Sharif military base. In addition to the soldiers filling individual positions, the aircraft with SAC01 registration transported the Hungarian and US members of the eighth rotation of the HDF Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT-8) – which has the mission of mentoring the infantrymen of the Afghan National Army (ANA) stationed in Baghlan Province –, as well as the third rotation of the Mi-17 Air Advisory Team (Mi-17 AAT-3) and the seventh rotation of the Mi-35 Air Mentor Team (Mi-35 AMT-7).

Lion Effort 2012

Although it took only two days to carry out the flying missions of Exercise Lion Effort 2012, identifying and analyzing the lessons learned will take a long time. Lt.-Col. Csaba Ugrik, the Air Operations Chief of the HDF 59th ‘Szentgyörgyi Dezső’ Air Base and the commander of the Hungarian contingent at the exercise gave us an on-scene summary of the “guest performance” in Sweden, which has been successful in every respect.

Rollover Training

Each Hungarian service member who will use the NaviStar MAXXPro vehicles participated in the American training, the so called “rollover” training. In addition to the HUN PRT-11 troops, the staffs of the Zrínyi Média were also present at the instruction conducted with a rollover simulator, as seen in the pictures and the video attached herewith.

Flexible Adaptation

If the weather is bad and the helicopters are late, it does not matter – just get on the cargo bed of a Rába all-terrain truck. Nature cannot defeat an infantryman so easily: the “enemy” radar station must be destroyed. This is exactly what happened on the slopes of the foggy Kőris-hegy (Ash Hill).

Over Sarajevo for the first time

Ten Hungarian parachutists made history on Saturday, for more than one reason. In the blazing sun, with 35 Celsius degrees in the shade, many guests turned up to see the helicopter, including Major General Bernhard Bair, EUFOR ALTHEA Commander, Brigadier General Tibor Nagy, his deputy, and Brigaider General Gerd Bischof, Chief of Staff.

Bochkor Was Spanked

It seems that Gábor Bochkor had an active and extremely hot morning in Pápa, where he has even undergone a commencement ceremony entailing a spanking. Of course, the prerequisite of this was the L-39ZA Albatros landing on the overheated concrete runway of the Pápa Base Airport, with Brigadier General István Petõ in the first cabin.
