More than 100 participants gathered to attend the main planning conference of Exercise Vigorous Warrior 2017 on Tuesday, 14 February in Budapest. The training event, which is the largest-scale medical exercise in the world, will take place in Germany in September.

On Wednesday, 26 October, a memorial ceremony to commemorate fallen soldier heroes was held in the courtyard of the MoD Institute and Museum of Military History in Budapest. Speaking at the candlelight vigil organized on the occasion of All Souls’ Day, Chief of Defence Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő asked the people assembled to remember not only those who fell in the 20th century but also the ones who were killed in action in the present age.

“They turned against one another under orders, but made peace in death”, Deputy Minister Tamás Vargha, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence stated referring to those Hungarian and German troops who lost their lives in World War II. Mr. Vargha gave a speech at a ceremony held on Thursday, 30 June to mark the 25th anniversary of the opening of Holy Spirit military cemetery in Székesfehérvár.

(MD) Dr. István Toperczer – a flight surgeon serving with the HDF 59th “Szentgyörgyi Dezső Air Base” – has opened inside the Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary. On Wednesday, 8 June Maj.-Gen. János Varga, Director of Staff (DOS) of the General Staff delivered an opening speech at the exhibition, which illustrates the role of the Hungarian Defence Forces in the Baltic Air Policing (BAP) mission.
