Running since 28 September, the 32nd International Military Observer Course (IMOC) continued with aerial helicopter reconnaissance. While flying aboard a Mi-8 helicopter of the Hungarian Defence Forces, the IMOC students recorded information about the region of Szolnok.

Having completed most of the classroom and field training, on Tuesday, 11 October the 29-member “class" of the 32nd IMOC visited the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base, the home of rotary-wing flying. While on the base, they brushed up the knowledge they have already acquired and also learnt about aerial reconnaissance and surveillance. Most attendees of the course have arrived in Hungary as already capable and skillful officers with the intention of achieving a higher level of competence.

Nine Hungarian and 20 foreign soldiers (from 15 European, Asian and African countries) are attending the three-week series of training events, which are organized and being managed by the experts of the HDF Peace Support Training Centre (HDF PSTC). They are helped by instructors from Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Finland, who are continuously supervising and evaluating the trainees.

After take-off, the helicopter pilots took the course attendees for a pre-scheduled flight. Beyond enjoying the experience of flying and the landscape, the students had an important duty, as they were tasked to record all military and non-military remarkable features and things worthy to be reported, and also to take photos of them.

Recognized by the UN, the IMOC course is quite popular. So far more than 700 officers have registered and successfully completed it, coming to Hungary from 75 countries of the world.
