János Áder, the President of Hungary greeted the young officers commissioned as second lieutenants. In his speech, he surveyed the historic events of Hungary and talked about the challenges of the present too, drawing attention to the fact that “the foundation of the state did not end with Saint Stephen’s feat". As he noted, “from generation to generation, we have preserved our ability to raise our hearts to found our state anew even from nothing", and time after time there is a need for it, as our history shows.
In greeting the officer cadets, Defence Minister Csaba Hende emphasized that “the act of these 76 young men and women tells us that we belong together!" The Minister stressed the importance of officer training by stating that “We do not know what the future holds. Thus we must always hope for the best and prepare for the worst. We do not know that, so our country will always need the officers of the Hungarian Defence Forces!"
The newly commissioned second lieutenants have completed their studies at the National University of Public Service, which was established on January 1 this year, and are assigned to the HDF Ludovika Battalion, a unit formed in 2011.
After the official program, the parade battalion marched past to salute the superiors and the Hungarian Tricolor. A lot of visitors watched the ensuing water and air show on the banks of the River Danube. The rest of the day offered many interesting programs to the audience. By tradition, the ceremony closed with fireworks starting at 21:00 in the evening.
