Minister of Defence Csaba Hende awarded the “For the Alliance” medal to Maj.-Gen. Robert Brieger, the outgoing commander of Operation EUFOR ALTHEA. Maj.-Gen. László Domján, the commander of the HDF Joint Force Command presented the Austrian general with the decoration in Sarajevo.

The Helicopter of the 86ths Circles Around Eiffel Tower

The HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base hosts some scenes of Ice Age 2, which is a disaster film in the making, starring John Rhys-Davies and Iván Kamarás among others. The takes in which – thanks to the digital technology – we will see in the film a Mi–8 helicopter of the Hungarian Defence Forces circling around the top of Eiffel Tower are being filmed here too. Our crew visited the location of shooting on Friday, November 9.

Ten Kilometers in Boots or Trainers

A host of civilians and more than 300 soldiers and HDF employees ran together at the NATO Run on September 30 in the four kilometer city park running, the 10 kilometer running and the ten kilometer relay events. By tradition, most entrants covered the distance in trainers, but some of them were running the kilometers in a “soldierly” way, wearing boots.

Hungary Is Proud of You!

“Hungary is proud of you, and expects you to perform your duties in a way becoming to Hungarian soldiers while protecting Hungary’s security and fulfilling our allied commitments”, János Áder, the President of Hungary said on our national day. The commissioning ceremony for the 76 officer cadets who had graduated from the National University of Public Service took place in Kossuth Square, Budapest on August 20.

National Military Representatives Visit Hungary

At the invitation of Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, the Chief of the Defence Staff, this week the National Military Representatives serving at the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) are paying an official visit to Hungary. Every year the National Military Representatives pay a visit to a given country during which they can get to know the armed forces, history and cultural background of the host member state as well as some current issues in defence policy.
