Returning from Missions – Going on Mission

On February 7 a combined welcome home and farewell ceremony was held in Hódmezővásárhely for troops returning from and going on missions. The 6th rotation of the HDF Operational Mentor and Liaison Team (HDF OMLT-6) has completed its service in Afghanistan, whereas the members of the 9th rotation of the HDF EUFOR Contingent in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The 12th contingent of the HDF Provincial Reconstruction Team (HUN PRT-12) is about to deploy in Afghanistan.

The welcome home and farewell ceremony for the around 200 troops was attended by family members, friends and comrades, and among others by MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. István Simicskó, Lt.-Gen. Zoltán Orosz, the Deputy Chief of the MoD Defence Staff, Maj.-Gen. László Domján, the commander of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) and Brig.-Gen. Dr. Gábor Böröndi, the commander of the HDF 5th ‘Bocskai István’ Infantry Brigade.

In his speech, the MoD Parliamentary State Secretary stressed that Hungary’s soldiers can be regarded as diplomats during their tour of duty abroad. Through their professional service, they have done and continue to do a lot to earn good reputation and respect for Hungary.

At the end of the ceremony István Simicskó awarded the bronze grade of the Medal of Service with Swords to some members of the OMLT-6 rotation, namely Capt. Róbert Kiss, Capt. László Sipos, WO Attila Makula, SFC László Kovács, SFC Tibor Taskovics, S/Sgt. Norbert Kun, S/Sgt. Lajos Serb, L/Sgt. Mihály Kiss, L/Sgt. Szilárd Liszkai, L/Sgt. István László Tóth and L/Sgt. Gábor Nagy Szatmári, for displaying bravery in firefight on a combat operation.
