The memory of the Honvéds who were killed in the Great War was honoured in Békéscsaba on Monday, 29th April. The WWI Heroes’ Cemetery renovated from governmental resources with the support of the Ministry of Defence was inaugurated with military honours.

Jumping to the Third Step of the Podium

Our country’s team won the third place at the WMPC in a tremendous fight. Ensign István Asztalos, volunteer operational reservist finished as the fourth in the individual – after a so-called fold jump deciding the dead heat between three competitors -, PFC Ferenc Horváth, the youngest member of the team was the thirteenth in the junior category. The Awards Ceremony of the World Championship was held on 20th August in Szolnok.

They Have Returned Home From Iraq

It was more than 70 years before Julie Owens Robinson, the niece of 2nd Lt. George Lenon Owens Jr. learned the exact circumstances of her uncle’s death. The woman living in North Carolina visited Hungary to pay tribute, on behalf of her family, to the memory of her uncle – the co-pilot of a B–24 heavy bomber that had crashed between Kiskunlacháza and Délegyháza.

Instructors to Depart for Afghanistan

On 23 August – speaking on behalf of the commander of the HDF Joint Force Command – Col. Dr. Tamás Bali, Vice-Commander of the HDF 86th Szolnok Helicopter Base said farewell to his colleagues posted to fill individual advisory positions. The commander of the group ready for the service in Afghanistan is Maj. Gábor Oláh.

Three Weeks in the Air

This year’s largest-scale exercise of the Hungarian Air Force started on 22 May. The Exercise Director of Load Diffuser 2017 – which is running with the participation of seven countries and is scheduled to last until 9 June – is Col. Pál Szűcs, Acting Air Force Chief of the HDF Joint Force Command. According to plans, one of the missions will involve as many as 30 different military aircraft flying at the same time in the airspace of Hungary.

Collective Task at the Border

The second rotation of the Austrian engineer contingent sent to Hungary (AUTCON HUN) to strengthen the Schengen borders has successfully accomplished its mission. On Wednesday, 17 May in Hódmezővásárhely, Lt.-Gen. Franz Reißner, Land Forces Commander of the Austrian Armed Forces and Brig.-Gen. Zoltán Mihócza, Chief of Staff, HDF Joint Force Command thanked the Austrian troops for their work before their return home from the tour abroad.

Military Observers Learn Peacekeeping Skills

On Monday, 26 September the International Military Observer Course (IMOC) was launched in the HDF Peace Support Training Center – Szolnok. In opening the course, Brig.-Gen. Zoltán Mihócza, Acting Chief of Staff of the HDF Joint Force Command wished the course participants every success with their work.
