One hundred years of military history are preserved in Sebestyén Imre’s home near Kecskemét. The retired police major has been collecting picture postcards ever since his childhood, the majority of his collection counting 250 thousand pieces, arranged according to subjects, covers military topics, the oldest cards had been posted as early as before World War I.

The Most Difficult Task Was Waking Up “At Dawn”

Reveille at 0600hrs, morning PT, cleaning the quarters, lining up, receiving daily orders, training until the afternoon, and night watch – the participants of the military camp ”Adventure Time!” had a tight daily schedule for a week. It was the first time that teenager “soldiers” had been recruited to the “barracks” set up in the Póstelek Leisure Park; the next batch of campers will arrive on July 31.

Ready for the Mission

On June 9, a farewell ceremony was held in Zrínyi Miklós barracks in Hódmezővásárhely for soldiers leaving on a mission abroad. The members of the HDF EUFOR-9 (European Union Force) contingent will serve with the maneuver company of the Austrian-led multinational battalion (MNBN) stationed in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and some of them will be posted to individual positions in the staff of the MNBN HQ. The commander of the Hungarian contingent is Lt-Col. Szabolcs Kiss.

Hungarian Troops Return from Kabul

The soldiers returning from the Hungarian Defence Forces Staff Officer Group at Kabul International Airport (HDF KAIA SOG) were officially greeted at the HDF 59th “Dezső Szentgyörgyi” Air Base in Kecskemét. In the opinion of the NATO ISAF command, the Hungarian contingent has done an excellent job in the last six months, Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende said at the “Welcome Home” ceremony of the troops.

Bridge-Layers in Action

The watercraft platoon of the 2nd bridge company of the Szentes-based HDF 37th ‘Ferenc Rákóczi II’ Engineer Regiment is currently practicing bridge-laying. The personnel of the engineer squad are tasked with constructing a 40-meter TMM-3 bridge by the end of the four-week training program.

Hungary’s Spring

On March 15 MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Dr. István Simicskó held an unconventional history class in the Peacock Room of the Cifrapalota (‘Fancy Palace’) of Kecskemét: he introduced the exhibition ‘Hungary’s Spring’ to Hungarian children living in neighboring countries. The unique exhibition that displays relics of the heroes of the 1848/49 Revolution and War of Independence comprises Norbert Máday’s collection.

Ministerial Visit to Hajdúhadház

On Thursday, February 17 Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende attended the opening of an exhibition on the history of hussars held at the ‘Ádám Vay’ Training Base of the Hungarian Defence Forces 5th ‘István Bocskai’ Infantry Brigade in Hajdúhadház. “On 25th April, the day of proclaiming the new Constitution, the Hungarian Defence Forces will take over the full-scale guard duties of the Holy Crown of Hungary and the coronation regalia”, the Defence Minister announced at the opening of the exhibition.
