Checkride in the Air

The pilots participating in the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program had a checkride on March 11 in Szolnok. Lt. Gábor Horváth and Lt. Vilmos Szabadi have met the requirements of the stringent qualification and received an “excellent” grade. Their training will start this summer in Canada, where they will fly Harvard II aircraft.

Mentors Receive Spartan Sword

In barracks as a private person

Minister of Defence of Croatia Mr Ante Kotromanović is spending a part of his holiday in Hungary. Although he arrived in Hungary with his wife as a private person Mr Kotromanović accepted the suggestion of his Hungarian counterpart Mr Csaba Hende to pay a visit to the MH 34th Bercsény László Special Operations Battalion on 6th December.

Start of the Show

I wish the pilots and uneventful day, and the guests and visitors a very eventful one. Long live the 75-year-old Hungarian Air Force, long live the Hungarian Defence Forces! – with these words, Minister of Defence Csaba Hende officially opened the International Air Show and Military Display at Kecskemét some minutes after 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 3.

Military Attachés at the Air Base

The members of the Budapest Military Attaché Corps (BMAC) visited Kecskemét on June 19. In April, the military attachés were introduced to the units stationed at Szolnok, and according to plan, in early autumn they will visit the HDF Pápa Air Base.

Ready to Provide Assistance

The first rotation of the HDF Military Advisory Team (MAT) has recently finished its pre- deployment training. The Hungarian–American contingent held its culmination exercise (CULEX) in the “Miklós Zrínyi” barracks of Hódmezővásárhely on April 29. The designated commander of the team is Col. Zsolt Molnár, his deputy is Lt.-Col. David Ditz. According to plans, they are going to deploy in the Afghanistan area of operations in mid-May.

Doberdo Tree Returns Home

The remains of a mulberry tree have temporarily returned to the Doberdo Plateau. The tree is a symbol of the 46th Infantry Regiment of Szeged which fought heroically on the Italian front in World War I. The relic was transported to Szeged by cart in 1916 and has so far been kept in the “Ferenc Móra” Museum. From March 30 on, however, it will be on display again at the scene of the battles, in the town of San Martino del Carso.

Gripens on Air Gunnery

Between March 18–21, the fighter pilots of the HDF 59th ‘Szentgyörgyi Dezső’ Air Base were practicing close air support (CAS) of the land forces on the “zero point range. The joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTACs) of the Szolnok helicopter base provided terminal attack guidance for the Gripens engaging the targets.

The Soldiers Are Ready to „Change the Guards” in Kabul

The second rotation of the HDF Kabul International Airport Force Protection Contingent (HDF KAIA FPC) has finished its pre-deployment training. The two-day culmination exercise (CULEX) of the training was conducted on February 12–13 in Hódmezővásárhely.
