The military attachés accredited to Hungary spent a day at the HDF 59th ‘Szentgyörgyi Dezső" Air Base. Lt.-Col. Barna Jenei, the acting deputy commander of the base welcomed the guests and informed them briefly about the past and present of the unit, its further plans and tasks in NATO’s system of alliance. Afterwards, the military attachés were shown the equipment of the airfield maintenance squadron, watched a display inside a Gripen hangar, the working conditions of the air traffic controllers and a training flight, and also talked to the pilots.

Col. Jacinto Romero, the defence attaché at the Budapest Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain told us that although he had been serving in Hungary just for a year, he had already been to a lot of units. He considers these visits very important because they not only broaden the attachés’ knowledge but also provide them with opportunity to form personal contacts and friendships that make their work easier. Speaking about the visit to Kecskemét, the doyen of the BMAC told us that as an air defence artilleryman, he was very pleased to have been introduced to the base for professional reasons too, and was also interested in visiting Pápa in the autumn.
