Ministerial Visit to Hajdúhadház

On Thursday, February 17 Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende attended the opening of an exhibition on the history of hussars held at the ‘Ádám Vay’ Training Base of the Hungarian Defence Forces 5th ‘István Bocskai’ Infantry Brigade in Hajdúhadház. “On 25th April, the day of proclaiming the new Constitution, the Hungarian Defence Forces will take over the full-scale guard duties of the Holy Crown of Hungary and the coronation regalia”, the Defence Minister announced at the opening of the exhibition.

At the exhibition entitled ‘The garrison of Nyíregyháza between 1867 and 1944’, the Minister’s entourage included Gábor Márki, MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Economy, Gen. Dr. Tibor Benkő, Chief of Defence, and Maj-Gen. József Kovács, Commanding General, Hungarian Defence Forces Joint Force Command.
Historian Dr. János Bene, the director of the ‘András Józsa’ Museum opened the exhibition that shows the uniforms and weapons of former hussars, together with several photos taken at the barracks of Nyíregyháza and different exercises. The Defence Minister welcomed the invited guests, announcing that on 25th April, the day of proclaiming the new Constitution, the Hungarian Defence Forces will take over the full-scale guard duties of the Holy Crown of Hungary and the coronation regalia.

After the opening of the exhibition, Defence Minister Dr. Csaba Hende was guided around the Hajdúhadház training base of the unit by Brig-Gen. Dr. Gábor Böröndi, the Commanding General of the Hungarian Defence Forces 5th ‘István Bocskai’ Infantry Brigade.
Majors Bálint Legoza and Péter Szabó reported to the Minister on the activities of the 5/24 ‘Gergely Bornemissza’ Reconnaissance Battalion, then the delegation was shown around the installations No. 2. and 3.

The highlight of the visit was a demonstration held by the reconnaissance battalion. Having inspected the military equipment of the subunit, the guests were introduced to the role of the tactical recce teams in missions abroad.
In what followed, the guests visited a hidden observation post and watched a successful action of army scouts ambushing a vehicle.
