Slovak Troops Arrive in Hungary to Join Combined Training Balaton 2015

On Sunday, 1 November Slovak troops arrived in the Hódmezővásárhely barracks of the HDF 5th “Bocskai István” Infantry Brigade. On the same day, they joined the ongoing combined training Balaton 2015, which serves as a preparation for the crisis situation caused by mass migration.

In his welcome speech, Garrison Commander Col. László Drót said that Balaton 2015, which is running from 15 October to December 15, is aimed at training Hungarian, Czech and Slovak servicemen for logistic tasks to help dealing with the crisis situation caused by mass migration in the regions of Kaposvár, Nagykanizsa and Hódmezővásárhely.

Since mid-October, a 21-strong Czech logistic unit has been training together with the Hungarian personnel, and is now joined by the Slovak contingent comprising 21 soldiers and 11 military assets that can transport 60 tons of material, 100 persons and eight cubic meters of potable water, the colonel added.

Under an agreement of the Visegrád Four (V4) countries, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland is to send altogether 170 policemen and soldiers to reinforce the defence of Hungary’s southern borders.

On Sunday, after hoisting the flag of Slovakia, the theoretical lessons and the integration training started in the Hódmezővásárhely barracks.
