Minister of Defence Csaba Hende was the main patron of the international martial arts competition, which was co-organized by the Szentendre Kinizsi Military Sports Club (SZKMSC) and the Hungarian Zen Bu Kan Kempo Karate Federation. The professional patron of the event was Dr. Zoltán Borbíró, Deputy State Secretary for Defence Economy, Ministry of Defence (who is a Ju-Jitsu champion too).
“We were given an opportunity to organize the championship because last year the CQB special department of the sports club was the winner of Hanshi Cup", Zsolt Vura, the president of the club told us. He added that “organizing an international competition like this is a complex task – from setting up the registration system to providing the venue and the financial background – but we have found great partners in that at the HDF NCO Academy. Our special thanks go to Brig.-Gen. Gábor Horváth, Col. Tibor Deme and the logistic battalion of the NCO Academy. Thanks to their flexibility, the organization was going very smoothly."
The championship was open, so anybody was welcome to register, but it was plain to see that even the 5-6 year-old children were experienced martial artists. “I have been doing kempo for two years and usually have training sessions twice a week", 10-year-old Endre Tibor Vas told us in answering our question. He gave a display on this day in the Weapon Form.
Most participants were purple-belt practitioners at the least – they have already passed five exams with success. The KatonaSuli students from the Dennis Gábor College (DGC) of Debrecen also entered the competition. They arrived to take part in the event together with their instructor, 1st Lt. András Fekete.
