„At this moment, the Sinai Peninsula is not free from tensions; during their pre-deployment training, the personnel leaving to serve with the mission have been trained in the safe procedures to be used in the changed security situation”, stressed Maj.-Gen. László Domján. The commander of the HDF Joint Force Command (HDF JFC) greeted the soldiers to serve with missions abroad at a farewell and welcome home ceremony held in Székesfehérvár on August 22.

In addressing the 18 personnel to deploy with the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission in the Sinai Peninsula, Maj.-Gen. Domján asked them to fully comply with the safety regulations. He added that “besides keeping to the given SOPs precisely, please never forget that some challenges of the mission are not related to safety. These challenges are ones of the human soul, as only we can know what it feels like to be alone in a container room. Please take care of your comrades, and help one another in those difficult moments", the commander of the HDF JFC said.

Maj.-Gen. László Domján pointed out that the personnel must further enhance the good reputation of Hungarian peacekeepers. Speaking about the duties of the military observers to leave for Georgia and the Western Sahara, he stressed that they are tasked with liaising between the opposing parties autonomously, in environments which are not free from armed conflicts. They are the diplomats of Hungary in these missions, the major-general pointed out.

“From my personal experience I know that the Hungarian soldiers’ knowledge meets European standards today because as a result of 20 years of experience gained abroad, they not only speak English (at some places French), the official command language of the given international environment, but are also able to adapt themselves to the operational requirements they are supposed to fulfill", the commander said.

During the ceremony, Maj.-Gen. László Domján presented a medal to Maj. Zsolt Herczeg, who has completed a one-year tour of duty at the operations command of the German armed forces.
