Two soldiers from the HDF “Görgei Artúr” CBRN Area Control Centre recently attended an advanced special course held in Serbia with the title “Defence against the effects of chemical weapons”.

The course took place in the CBRN Training Centre and training grounds (Krusevac) of the Serbian armed forces (SAF) with the participation of 24 soldiers from 13 nations. The course objective was to broaden the knowledge and practical experience of participating experts in the topic of “defence against the harmful effects of chemical warfare agents (CWAs)".

During the course, the attendees learned about the procedures and equipment used for detecting CWAs, and also practiced their detection using simulants. The course also covered topics like individual protective equipment for mission oriented protective posture (MOPPS) in the Serbian armed forces and the decontamination procedures. Furthermore, the participants had opportunity to take samples and identify CWAs in the field under realistic conditions with the use of simulants.

The course program also included reconnoitring and marking off a contaminated terrain sector by car. Besides, the organizers introduced the internal workspace, equipment and auxiliary devices of a deployable laboratory vehicle.
